Apple Coral and Walrus Ivory - Bird & Trout Knife

This is a sweet piece. It has a razor sharp O1 Tool Steel blade; differentially heat treated for a hard edge and a softer, springier back; all with a finely tapered tang. Add Ancient Walrus Ivory mixed with more modern Apple Coral and it makes for a handsome combination. Apple Coral is not as fragile as the fossil coral I normally use. As a matter of fact, when I cut it on the bandsaw, it sparks the blade pretty well. I did a "break test" with what was left over after cutting out the scales and I was amazed at what it took to snap the piece in half. All that being said, this knife is a user - it's ready for the field cleaning up the batch of pheasants you just took or at your side on the river getting tonights dinner ready. And as far as a gift for the outdoorsman in your life goes- well, I think you know the answer to that. :)

Apple Corals' beauty is hard to describe. I guess I'm not the only one that loves it because it is getting very expensive, even at wholesale.

This is the "Tapioca" or center of a walrus tusk. It polishes out better than glass and has an "opalescence" to it in changing light. Beautiful!

Do you know how hard it is to photograph white liners and a shiny spine? Well, it is. :) I'm a knifemaker, not a photographer and it's a good thing.

All my knives come with a hand made, hand sewn 6-7 oz premium leather sheath.
