File Work
File work styles only vary by the imagination
and the skill of the knifemaker
-
Some examples...

Twisted Ribbon
File work done the proper way, utilizes several different
types of metal files. The one above uses only a round file.

Vine & Thorn
Some people try to use Dremels but in my opinion there is no
way to get the same level of detail that hand files provide.
The vine & thorn pattern uses chain saw, marking, and
miniature triangle & flat files.

Spinal Tap
The Spinal Tap pattern looks similiar to a human spinal
column. The real beauty of this pattern is seen on the
sides of the blade where it really stands out.
Files
As mentioned above, there are several different types
of hand files used in file work. The above examples are
only a few but they are the ones I use the most. BTW-
a marking file is also known as a "half-round"; only
in the case of file working, the flat side has had the
cutting teeth removed to make it "safe".
