Knifemaking - Work in Progress - A Tutorial
Tapering Tangs - A Tutorial
This video not only shows you how I taper my tangs, but it shows you why I do, and the jigs I've created and fabricated to make it a simpler process. It isn't something you get the "hang of" immediately, but with a little practice it becomes much easier to do. Let me know if you think this video is Oscar worthy as I may need to order my tuxedo from Wrangler Jeans ahead of time. :)
Grinding the "Twisted Cripple" EDC
This is the first "tutorial" type video to come out of my shop. It depicts the grinding of our new everyday carry knife. It starts with a blade that has been cut out on the bandsaw and then profiled on a small grinder. The blue tape is used to locate and match the plunge cut on both sides of the knife. These knives are 'flat ground' using the platen of the Burr King 960-200 Knifemakers Grinder
The Many Styles of Jarrett Knives
This video is intended to show the versatility and quality of my work, and does not include all of the models that I offer.
Kestrel Showcase
The Kestrel is one of my most popular knife styles and as depicted in
the video, it can be made with various handle material, with or without bolsters.
News, Blog, Interesting Stuff ;)
WINTER IS UPON US! Well, it was a super quick Autumn and now we're fully into winter. This pic below is from October 28th when three feet of snow hit the canyon. Our "little piece of heaven", Coal Creek Canyon, has it's own "Micro-Climate" that can be different from anywhere within 20 miles. We get wind funneled right off of the Continental Divide which is about 15 miles as the crow flies due west. Also, our home is only 1 1/2 miles from the location of the highest recorded wind in the state. That was in 1980 when gusts of over 140mph were recorded in Wondervu. I used to have a pretty neat amatuer weather station set up here at the house. I say "I used to" because during one of our winter storms when the wind was howling, it took off two of the three "paddles" from my anamometer (that measures wind). The poor thing was left with only one so it couldn't spin any longer. For several days I was recording -65 degrees with wind chill. It wasn't until I discovered that the micro processor unit could only measure down that low that I realized it could have been much colder up here. This is the time that sitting by a cozy fire with a hot toddy is wonderful...er...I mean...working in a toasty shop is great. Whew, I almost let that slip out. :)
